Community
We believe that by thinking outside ourselves and investing in each other, we can create a better world. As a values-driven, women-owned business, Chowgirls is committed to sharing with our community in many ways.
We’ve been involved in community work since our inception, from silent auction donations to staff volunteer excursions to serving on local non-profit boards. We’ve partnered with East Side Neighborhood Services, Every Meal, Jeremiah Foundation, Menlo Academy, Northeast Minneapolis Farmers Market, Nourish 282, Open Arms of Minnesota, Perspectives, Second Harvest Heartland, Simpson Housing, and True Food Chef Council, to name a few.
Our donations and sponsorships support organizations and events that align with our values, of women’s rights, BIPOC equity, LBGTQ+ communities, children’s education and welfare, hunger relief, sustainability, and arts and culture. As founding members of Minnesota Central Kitchen, now known as Kitchen Coalition, we’re proud to lead the way in sharing food with hungry families in our community.
In March of 2020, as concerns regarding COVID-19 changed the landscape of the hospitality industry, Chowgirls partnered with Second Harvest Heartland to rally resources to create Kitchen Coalition, an essential service to meet the growing need for emergency meals in our community. The initiative also provided jobs for chefs, rescued food from waste, and supported local farmers.
For more than a year, Chowgirls provided kitchen space, staff, supplies, and expertise to prepare and package 9,000 meals per week for our food-insecure neighbors and their families. Since our return to catering in April 2021 and as we navigate the pandemic, our hunger-relief work and community food service continues. See our story here.
